Experience

I offer a holistic and personalized teaching approach for chemistry, biology and mathematics. I am committed to creating a custom learning strategy for each student, tailored to their individual strengths, needs and educational goals. First and foremost, I always strive to give my students a strong foundation in each subject and then expand to more advanced concepts and real world applications. I have over 500 hours teaching and tutoring high school and college students in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, General Chemistry, Calculus, and Biology. I worked as a teaching assistant for two years at the William and Mary Chemistry Department, teaching classes of 20 to 30 students on topics ranging from the periodic table to quantum mechanics. In this position I’ve also held review sessions attended by over 100 students, graded numerous assignments and worked with professors to develop course curriculum. I have a strong understanding of the current college chemistry and premed curriculum. I use this insider knowledge to help my college students excel in their current courses and prepare my high school students to succeed in their future college careers. I have a strong background with hands-on chemical applications, which I use to give my students engaging practice problems and help them build a passion for science. I worked as a research assistant in a Bi-Organic Synthesis Research lab for two years, where I performed nearly every reaction taught in the Organic Chemistry course and carried out chemical analysis utilizing a wide variety of techniques including X-ray Crystallography, TLC, Gas and Column Chromatography and NMR, IR, AA, UV-Vis and Mass Spectroscopy. I try to use anecdotes from this experience, like hiding behind a radiation shield while blasting a sample with xrays or using a giant super-conducting liquid helium cooled magnets, to keep my students engaged and build interest in science.
